4 Seam Fastball Grip

I would like to explain the 4 seam fastball grip, a baseball pitching grip. There are various baseball pitching grips for various pitches but today's pitching tutorial will be on how to grip a 4 seam fastball. Notice this pitching grip in the featured image. My fingers are held across the seams. My thumb is held below the ball between my two fingers. And very importantly there is daylight between the ball and my palm. When I release the ball ( holding it across the seams ) the ball  rotates faster thus creating more  velocity. because all four seams are rotating through the air. Now, I can't help but give a hitter an important tip to hit a  4 seam fastball.

Visually a 4 seam fastball has 3 characteristics that a hitter can identify. It is faster, straighter and whiter than a two seam fastball which I will explain in my next article..Also, if you are a catcher, infielder or outfielder you should hold the ball across the seams just as if you were a pitcher throwing a 4 seam fastball when releasing the ball. It will create more velocity and accuracy because of a faster spin rate.
